IN PROGRESS
Very pleasant walk but I was not aware when signing up that it would take place in my immediate surroundings and to buildings and streetart I pass by all the time and have photographed ad nauseam.
Also, one of the buildings was The Jewish Museum, and since that is only about 200 m from my home (and it started to rain – again) it was too tempting to go home and perhaps meet up again later.
I KNOW it is irrational, but much as I always used to admire and respect all of Daniel Libeskind’s architecture, anything that reminds me of Israel now makes me feel almost physically ill, and there is no way I will ever take another photo of that museum which to me, by now, is a blott on the landscape and I hate living so close to it. In fact, I cross the street, use another bus stop, or even take a detour, every time I need to go in that direction from my home, or return home from that direction. It probably does not make any sense to anybody, and maybe not even to myself, but there it is.
The simple act of writing this makes me want to go to bed and pull the covers all the way up over my head. I don’t even know any more how to give moral support to my Berlin-based Palestinian friends, two of whom are from Gaza, and their families (those that are still alive) are still there.
Anger meets disgust meets despair meets grief meets nausea – and that is just me – I can’t even begin to imagine how they must have been feeling the last couple of years with all those ruined lives.
And a planned coffee break in the café of Berlinische Galerie, with the chronically obnoxious staff (but perhaps they are tired of being mentioned in the same breath as the Jewish Museum by tourists visiting both of them because they are in the same neighbourhood).
Anyway, before we got that far I did take a couple of photos:
One of the situations where I am not sure: colour or black & white:
While at Willy-Brandt-Haus (SPD HQ), we talked about him and how he must be turning in his grave these days. Here he is twice – a wall decoration and the reflected statue:
